The Business Helper

  Will your package make it there in one piece?  It will if you’ve packed it properly.  Hi, my name is Mo Morrison from the Business Helper; Traverse City, MI.  Here are a few rules to follow when your preparing to package and ship something: determine the products value and sensitivity, use bubble wrap and packing peanuts, and double box sensitive items. 

  If your purchasing insurance and something happens, be prepared to prove the value of the damaged product.  You cannot purchase insurance for paper products like savings bonds, checks, money orders, cash or documents.  Most damage claims are denied because the package was determined to be insufficiently packed by sender.

  You should always have sensitive products professionally packed.  Items like: pictures & art pieces, ceramics, glassware, and other breakables including electronics and laptops all require proper fill & bubble and need to be double boxed.  Double boxing means the smaller box is inside the larger box surrounded by 2″ of packing peanuts.  Avoid using paper as packing material, paper is not considered to be sufficient packing material for breakable items.  Stick to using bubbles and peanuts, and always seal electronics in plastic from packing peanuts. 

  Do not ship boxes wrapped in gift wrap paper, or brown paper; the paper tends to tear and the whole address can be completely torn off the box.  Shipping companies may refuse to accept a package wrapped in paper.

Saturday of Labor Day Weekend

August 30 at 4 pm until just after dark

at Suttons Bay Marina Park

The Suttons Bay Chamber of Commerce and its members join together to collect the needed funds to continue the Labor Day Fireworks and Entertainment.  This fourth year event was in serious jeopardy of being canceled due to the lack of the necessary financial resources.  It is amazing how generous our community is when it comes to offering an afternoon to the “local” community.   Be sure to thank, Jim Munro, Suttons Bay Chamber President and owner of the Korner Kottage when you see him.  It is with his determination that this event will continue for its fourth year of a SUTTONS BAY BANG.

The shows begins late afternoon where the “local”band HURSH opens the show ON STAGE with a few tunes of their own and then opening up the stage to any performer for an OPEN MIC. If you have not heard Hursch - they are pretty good.  For those Suttons Bay Village residents you will recognize their lead performer, Ben.  He is the cute red head DPW employee who has worked for the Village of Suttons Bay for quite sometime now. 

All ages and all types of talents are welcome.  Do you know magic?  Are you a comedian? Or, perhaps you are willing to participate in a sing along.   Mark you calendars and come on down.  Spectators are welcome. Bring a blanket, lawn chair and snacks, or perhaps a plan a potluck with some friends.   If you are fortunate enough to live on the beautiful water of Suttons Bay, invite some friends over and enjoy the nighttime show.
