THE SHOW GOES ON!
Jan and Pete Ostrowski perform with their violin students
FIREWORKS and ENTERTAINMENT Saturday of Labor Day Weekend August 30 at 4pm until just after dark at Suttons Bay Marina Park
The Suttons Bay Chamber of Commerce and its members have joined together to collect the needed funds to continue the Annual Labor Day Fireworks and Entertainment. This fourth-year event was in serious jeopardy of being canceled due to the lack of the necessary financial resources. It is amazing how generous our community is when it comes to offering an afternoon to the "local" community. Be sure to thank Jim Munro, Suttons Bay Chamber of Commerce President, and owner of the Korner Kottage Bed & Breakfast, when you see him. It is because of his determination, and ability to round up volunteers, that this event will continue for its fourth year of a SUTTONS BAY BANG.
The shows begins late afternoon where the "local" band HURSH opens the show ON STAGE with a few tunes of their own and then opening up the stage to any performer for an OPEN MIC. If you have not heard HURSH - they are pretty good. Suttons Bay Village residents will recognize their lead performer, Ben. He is the cute redhead DPW employee who has worked for the Village of Suttons Bay for quite sometime now.
All ages and all types of talents are welcome. Do you know magic? Are you a comedian? Or, perhaps you are willing to participate in a sing-along. Mark you calendars and come on down. Spectators are welcome. Bring a blanket, lawn chair and snacks, or perhaps plan a potluck with some friends. If you are fortunate enough to live on the beautiful waterfront of Suttons Bay, invite some friends over and enjoy the nighttime show.
Donations are still needed. You can drop them off at the Business Helper in Suttons Bay or Fifth Third Bank in Suttons Bay or plan on putting something into the can the night of the show. Also, thanks to Camelot Construction for the use of their awesome mobile stage. Looking forward to seeing you there!

The Leelanau Showcase . . . a Business Expo
March, 2008
The Third Leelanau County Business Expo has been scheduled and you will definitely want to be there! There is no admission fee and the public is encouraged to attend. This Leelanau Peninsula Chamber of Commerce event only comes around every other year so mark your calendar.
(Suttons Bay, Michigan) On Wednesday, April 30th, from 11am to 6pm, the county’s third “Leelanau Showcase - A Business Expo” will be presented at the award-winning Strongheart Center 4 miles north of Suttons Bay. This event will feature nearly 100 mostly Leelanau businesses. There will be a unique blend of retail and service businesses, non-profit groups and organizations and they will be displayed in one convenient location.
The Expo will be participant interactive, with (interesting) demonstrations, local food vendors offering the finest of Leelanau's tasty fare; wandering minstrels will entertain the crowds; see BIG trucks; test drive the latest vehicles from Bill Marsh Auto; gather educational, non-profit, and recreational information or take in national park and conservation district discussions; enjoy furniture, balloons, and live entertainment throughout the day; the list goes on and on!
Preceeding the Business Expo, at the Leelanau Sands Casino Showroom, will be a Continental-style buffet breakfast designed to encourage networking and is also a great opportunity to garner information about what is happening in Leelanau. The program will include speakers and presentations from Village representatives promoting the many events and amenities they have to offer. Call 231-271-4404 to purchase your tickets for the buffet breakfast. Seating is limited and the price is $10.
It is not too late to participate! Currently, Expo Sponsors include TV 7&4, Northern Lumber and Pro Hardware, Leelanau Enterprise, Traverse City State Bank, The Business Helper, Dan Penning - Attorney, Grand Traverse Resort & Casinos, WCCW-Oldies 107.5, Radio 1310 AM - ESPN, Camelot Construction & Development, and WCMU Public Radio. Exciting News from Epicure Catering
This press release was submitted by Cammie Buehler of Epicure Catering.
Hello friends!
I have exciting news from Epicure Catering! We will now be booking events at Cherry Basket Farm in Omena, where our commissary is located. Under continuous restoration for 5 years, the farm has now had enough TLC to accommodate guests. Please keep us in mind for your next special event. More details can be found on our website: www.caterleelanau.com
In addition, I would also like to announce the release of the cookbook (In stores April 22, 2008) Andy and I worked on with renowned chef Mario Batali. We served as prep cooks at the photo shoot. Here is a blurb from the press release:
From the superstar chef and author of MOLTO ITALIANO, comes his handbook on Italian grilling, which will become an instant must-have cookbook for home grillers.
ITALIAN GRILL By Mario Batali with Judith Sutton
The words "Italian" and "grilling" go together like the verse and refrain in a love song by Lennon and McCartney--They seem as if they were made for each other. –Mario Batali
Mario Batali brings together his passion for Italian food and his love of grilling in ITALIAN GRILL.
Published by ECCO $29.95 - Hardcover On Sale April 22, 2008 ISBN: 0061450979
The quintessential introduction to tasty, smoky simple Italian food on the grill. No one can tell you about Italian grilling better than Mario Batali.
Grilling over hot coals or embers is as timeless as cooking itself and for the purest, most unadorned, and primordial experience, it's the grill. Anyone who has spent time in Italy knows that the most evocative and fragrant moments are smelled at someone's home, in a vineyard, or at a trattoria where something mouth-watering is cooking on a grill over hot coals. The kiss of the fire and iron grate can transform even the most quotidian vegetables, meats or fish into that hauntingly elusive perfect bite where the flavor of the natural product is enhanced, not masked. ITALIAN GRILL is about nuance and minimal interference with the flavor of the primary ingredient. There is no thick sweet barbecue sauce – in fact, there is rarely anything more to it than good olive oil, citrus, wine, herbs, garlic and hot chili flakes.
In addition to the 80 recipes, informative side-bars, and 60 four-color photographs throughout, the book is a complete reference for grilling basics and techniques. ITALIAN GRILL covers marinades, rubs, essential ingredients, and heat source options.
Recipes are divided up into six categories:
Appetizers (Antipasti) Bread & Flatbread (Pizza, Focaccina, and Piadina) Seafood & Shellfish Poultry Meat Vegetables
from comforting Eggplant Rollatini with Goat Cheese & Pesto and Pizza with Hot Salami and Pecorinoto to fresh Barbecued Octopus with Beans & Limoncello and Il Galleto al Mattone (Chicken Cooked Under a Brick). Meaty Rosticiana Ribs Italian Style and juicy Spit Roasted Whole Duck with Oranges & Rosemary go together with perfectly grilled vegetables such as Asparagus with Prosciutto Vinaigrette and Thick Grilled Onions with Lemon Thyme.

RadioShack of Suttons Bay is NOT Closing
The following is a news release from Jim Brye, Owner of Ohms E-Tech, LLL a RadioShack Franchise Dealer in Suttons Bay, Michigan.
Hello Friends,
Yesterday, February, 27, 2008, AT&T wireless sent hundreds of postcards to customers in Leelanau County who are receiving wireless cell phone service from them. These postcards also went to customers who were formerly with Cellular One.
Unfortunately, the information on the postcard erroneously states that RadioShack in Suttons Bay is closing. I wanted to let you all know as quickly as possible that this information is false and is due to an unfortunate choice of words. Here are the facts:
We are not closing! Our business was up approximately 15% in 2007 and our 2008 sales are currently on pace to exceed last year’s sales totals.
We have represented AT&T as an independent dealer since December 9th, 2007. AT&T made a decision to terminate the independent contracts with approximately 50% of their Northwest Michigan dealers including us. We were notified of their decision in January to terminate our independent dealer agreement on February 28th, 2008.
We will continue to represent AT&T through their national agreement with RadioShack so our customers will see no change in the great service we take pride in giving to everyone who does business with us.
We have worked very hard for the last 8 years to get the word out in Leelanau County that we are here. We are known to be friendly, knowledgeable, convenient, and competitively priced with even the biggest of the big box stores in Traverse City.
Thank you for passing this information to those who have received this postcard and those who have heard we are closing. We are looking forward to continue serving our numerous and very loyal customers for many years to come.
